American Heart Association Events

Dear Parents,

This month, your children will be participating in two endeavors sponsored by the American Heart Association.

They will be doing Jump Rope For Heart during gym class.  This is a fun event where they will jump rope while learning about their heart and how to keep it healthy.

In addition, they are also encouraged to participate in the Get Healthy Poster Contest. Students can submit a poster that highlights their favorite healthy activity and favorite healthy food. They can demonstrate how physical activity and healthy eating helps build healthy hearts, healthy families, and healthy communities. There are several prizes for the top submissions in each age group, including an award ceremony at the RI State House in May.

These are both wonderful opportunities that I hope your children will enjoy participating in. Please be on the look out for permission slips and more information coming home this week. More information can be accessed through these links as well:

If you have questions, please contact Dr. Jennifer Jarbeau (jfjarbeau@hotmail.com) or LeeAnne DeCarlo (leeanne.decarlo@heart.org).

Feedback Wanted: Talent Show Date

The Frenchtown Talent Show is an annual event which all students are welcome to participate in, and is free for all families to attend. This year's show is scheduled for Friday, June 3rd at 5:30 pm but the PTG recently learned that the East Greenwich Education Foundation will be holding its spring fundraiser that night, creating a conflict for some parents.

Because this is a school-wide event, we cannot hold it at Frenchtown due to capacity issues, and we don't want to charge anyone for tickets so we always use the EG High School auditorium, which gets booked up very far in advance. Based on their current calendar, the only other available date for the performance is Tuesday, June 7th which may present conflicts with sports and after school activities.

Rather than make this decision unilaterally, the PTG would like to know which date the Frenchtown community would prefer. Please note that the Talent Show also requires one dress rehearsal at EGHS so you'll be voting to either keep the original dates of dress rehearsal on Wednesday, June 1st and performance on Friday, June 3rd or to reschedule to dress rehearsal on Monday, June 6th and performance on Tuesday, June 7th.

Please vote on the date you prefer HERE. The survey will close on Thursday, March 17th and all answers are anonymous. Thanks in advance for your participation!

Wanted: BOKS Coordinator

Reebok sponsors a before school fitness program called BOKS, which stands for Build Our Kids' Success. The 6-week program through the Reebok Foundation is a fun, fitness program that gets students moving with games, and team-oriented activities and it promotes the powerful link between physical activity and increased academic performance.  After 45 minutes of fun, the students head off to their classroom ready to learn. In order to get the program up and running for this spring, we're looking for parents to volunteer to coordinate it at Frenchtown.

Volunteers will need to be rained by BOKS and will work with the East Greenwich BOKS coordinator to run the Frenchtown program. They will need to be at each session and recruit and oversee volunteers for each session, as well as working with Ms. Carr to make sure BOKS doesn't interfere with her preparations for Phys Ed classes.

If you are interested in helping with BOKS, please contact donnahmathews@live.com or sarahmeleski@gmail.com.

Play Rehearsals Begin for K Students Tomorrow

Kindergarten students participating in this year's play, "Character Matters," start rehearsals after school tomorrow, Wednesday, February 24th. Some reminders:

1. PM K and all-day K kids should pack an extra snack to have before rehearsal begins. If you're dropping of an AM K student, please make sure she or he has had a snack before coming to rehearsal.

2. Please send a note to your child's teacher indicating that he or she will be attending rehearsal on Wednesdays so they are not sent to the bus. A play volunteer will escort all of the participants from their classrooms to the rehearsal space.

3. K rehearsal ends at 3:30 pm. Whoever is picking up your child from rehearsal must bring photo ID and must be on the list that was provided on the play enrollment form. If someone else will be picking your child up, please send in a note.

4. Last but not least, volunteers are necessary to make this production a success! Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help. Below is the Sign Up Genius link to volunteer - please note that even though the form says K volunteers wrap at 4:15, we only need you until all K students are checked out at 3:30.
